Tonalis overview

Tonalis is software developed by a composer to make his job easier. It performs four part harmonisation in the common practise period style.

Start by entering a melody using the piano keyboard. Press harmonise and the app will automatically generate alto, tenor, and bass parts. Progressions are optimised to minimise the movement of inner parts and so the bass line is in contrary motion to the melody.

Tonalis was inspired by “Theory of Harmony” by Arnold Schoenberg. It allows almost anyone to instantly produce original compositions.

Choose from a selection of instruments and playback your compositions. Export the score as an image or a MIDI file.

Please be aware there are some restriction on the kinds of melodies you can currently write. Melodies must consist only of notes from the diatonic scale as chromatic harmony is not supported at present. Furthermore all notes must be of the same rhythmic value. There are plans to overcome these limitations and a future update will address this.
